What We Do
RESEARCH
Immunometabolism and Obesity
The CABAIL LAB focuses on the field of Immunometabolism and Obesity at the cellular and molecular level. Currently, we are working on two research projects:
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF OBESITY-ASSOCIATED METABOLIC INFLAMMATION
Our goal is to investigate the events involved in the pathophysiology of the chronic low-grade systemic inflammation observed in obese patients. In particular, we are interested in determine the role of autophagy in regulating such inflammatory state.
INVESTIGATION OF THE MOLECULAR MECHANISMS UNDERLYING THE LINK BETWEEN OBESITY AND PROSTATE CANCER
The main goal of this project is to elucidate the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the association between obesity and prostate cancer risk. This project is being conducted in collaboration with Dr. Manya Mascareno.

SCIENCE EDUCATION
Applied Learning experiences in Biology (SUNY-Old Westbury)
Immunology, Genetics, and Cell Biology are Applied Learning courses that engage students in a “structured education program that blends classroom studies with experiential learning”. Take a look at what my students and I are doing!

A Day with Inflammation Symposium & Students Art Showcase When Immunology Met Art
I run the Immunology laboratory as a research-embedded curriculum. Students develop their own research question, design the research plan, execute and perform their experiments, and at the end of the semester they present their research in a symposium . Many thanks to all faculty and staff who volunteered their time to be judges for this event! And congratulations to all Immunology students, you have done an incredible job!
HEALTH & SCIENCE CAREER EXPO
The purpose of this event is to present our students a broad range of potential science and health-related careers.
